On July 7, the Jurong Spring Community Sport Club (CSC) organised a walk for the estate’s seniors and their families to exercise and spend quality time together. The Family Day Walk was a collaborative programme put together by Jurong Spring community volunteers, students from Jurong-Pioneer Junior College, St Luke’s Eldercare and the CSC’s Zumba interest group. Mr Desmond Lee, Advisor to Jurong GRC GROs, Minister for Social and Family Development and Second Minister for National Development, kicked off the programme.
Many enthusiastic seniors turned up with their families, from grandparents to young children. The event also reflected the rich diversity of the neighbourhood, with people from different backgrounds coming together as one community.
In addition to the walk, the event also focused on healthy eating – participants walked away with supplies of fresh green vegetables. Among other activities, attendees also learnt important first-aid skills, as well as engaged in fun games and a Zumba workout session with an instructor from the Zumba interest group.
The emphasis at events such as this is always on holistic living for seniors, which essentially means engaging in wellness for both the mind and body.
