Yuhua marks National Day Observance Ceremony with art and creativity

In conjunction with the Observance Ceremony for Singapore’s 54th birthday, residents assembled to commemorate Singapore’s bicentennial at Yuhua Community Centre on National Day. There was a range of activities, games and performances lined up.

The day kicked off bright and early with the singing of the national anthem. Two hundred student performers from Fuhua Primary School also led 1,500 participants – including Guest of Honour Ms Grace Fu, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, Adviser to Yuhua Grassroots Organisation and Member of Parliament for Yuhua SMC – in reciting the pledge in the four official languages of Singapore.

After the ceremony, the games began, with excited participants partaking in popular games such as Five Stones, Hop Scotch and Bola Tin, while performances by the PCF Kindergarten children from Block 317, the Zone 5 Youth Ukulele Group and Yuhua Primary School entertained the crowd.

The event also saw the installation of a time capsule to mark the bicentennial. Ms Fu initiated the exercise by placing an item into the time capsule together with the Citizens’ Consultative Committee and Community Club Management Committee Chairman and Vice-Chairman as well as the organising committee.

Children also got an opportunity to express their artistic flair at the art booths, which had actvities such as Scratch Art, customising clog keychains, and colouring Peranakan coasters. In addition, there was a colouring and drawing contest, and a History Gallery to learn about the history of Yuhua, Jurong and Singapore. Long service awards for five, 10 and 15 years were presented to Grassroots Leaders, and Certificates of Appreciation to schools and art facilitators for the PAssionArts Festival, recognising their efforts in enabling a more creative space within the community.
