Championing a sharing and caring community culture

On 19 January, the “Yuhua Prosperity Rice Distribution 2020” brought smiles and a sprinkle of warmth to about 3,500 seniors living in Yuhua Village. Organised by the Yuhua Community Club, the event aimed to celebrate Chinese New Year with the community while distributing gift packages that included rice and fruit to elderly residents, who also each received a red packet.

Some of the beneficiaries came to the community club to pick up the gift packages directly, while a group of volunteers – including football players from Albirex Niigata Singapore FC – delivered the packages to elderly who were unable to come. As part of its efforts to give back to the community, Albirex Niigata also donated 2,000kg of ALBI Rice, which uses rice grains directly imported from Japan and is eaten daily by its players.

Ms Grace Fu, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, and Adviser to Yuhua Grassroots Organisations, also helped to distribute the prosperity packages to recipients, and made house visits to enquire about the well-being of the beneficiaries. Initiatives like these remind us not to forget the less fortunate, and share the festive season cheer with them to promote a gracious and unified community.
