Big Hearts, Healthy Bodies

Mr Leong Poong Choong, 69, has diabetes and a blocked artery in his leg, which worried him. So when he heard that this year’s health-screening event Project Big Heart included consultations with specialist doctors, he jumped at the chance to get a second opinion.

Project Big Heart is an annual collaboration between Jurong Central, Fullerton Health and Loving Heart Multi-Service Centre (Jurong) to provide complimentary health screening to CHAS card holders, the Pioneer Generation (PG) and, for the first time this year, the Merdeka Generation.

Mr Leong was one of 1,000 Jurong residents who benefited from this year’s event on 28 April.

MP Mr Ang Wei Neng praised Project Big Heart for having expanded in both scope and depth over the years, saying: “There were even physiotherapists on-site to assist residents with joint and bone disorders which are quite common among the elderly. Many thanks to the doctors, nurses, therapists and lay volunteers.”

Madam Zaitoon Binte Mydin Allapitchay, another resident at the event, said: “I’m definitely coming back next year!”
