Renewed and Refreshed Homes

Home has gotten even better for residents of Blocks 246 to 253 Jurong East Street 24 with the completion of the Neighbourhood Renewal Programme (NRP).

The NRP for these blocks cost $3.3 million and was completed in 2018.

Minister for Culture, Community, and Youth, and MP for Yuhua SMC, Ms Grace Fu officiated the NRP’s completion ceremony. The upgraded amenities aim to “encourage residents to pick up a healthy lifestyle, provide areas for family bonding and strengthen neighbourly ties”, she said.

A  carnival on 27 April was held to celebrate the completion of the NRP.

Highlights of the Upgrade

  • Accessibility: A new high link built across Jurong East St 24 enables residents to travel seamlessly between Block 251 and the market and food centre. Another high link between Blocks 252 and 256 provides sheltered access to nearby amenities.
  • Active Lifestyle: The playground between Blocks 248, 249 and 250 has been upgraded, while more playgrounds and exercise stations were added to Blocks 247 and 251.
  • Rest Areas: A large pavilion has been constructed to provide a space for residents to rest and engage with one another. Another pavilion near the main traffic junction at Block 252 along Jurong East Ave 1 allows residents to rest while waiting for the traffic light to turn green.
  • Green Spaces: A community garden has been added between Blocks 246 and 248.
  • Other Improvement Works: Drop-off points and barrier-free access between the blocks were constructed. Repainting and repair works and electrical load upgrading were also carried out. The interiors of flats were also enhanced under the Home Improvement Programme in the 1st quarter of 2019.
