Spreading love through charity food drive

Practicing generosity and sharing our blessings with others is a refreshing way to kick-start 2020, and a number of kind-hearted Jurong Central residents chose to spend January in a meaningful way by volunteering to pack and distribute food hampers to needy families.

Organised by Jurong Central, Project Love first called for residents to volunteer for the charity drive, as well as donations for halal-certified canned food and grocery vouchers through its banner display and social media channels. After gathering the donations, the hampers were packed on 5 January and delivered to the beneficiaries on 18 January.

Mr Ang Wei Neng, Member of Parliament for Jurong GRC (Jurong Central) and Chairman of the Jurong-Clementi Town Council, joined and helped volunteers in the food packing. He noted that there was a 30% increase among the less fortunate residents who needed food hampers and grocery vouchers for Chinese New Year this year. “On a brighter note, a record number of residents donated food items and FairPrice vouchers. With the donation and the help of more than 200 volunteers, we managed to pack 500 hampers in less than two hours. A big thank you to all who have assisted,” said Mr Ang in a Facebook post.
