Walking for a cause

Walking for a cause

On 13 October, 1,200 Yuhua residents walked in unison for a good cause at the “Charity Walk for Rice” event held at Yuhua Community Club (CC). Football players from Albirex Niigata Singapore FC also took part in the event by walking and doing gymnastics with local residents. As most of the football club’s players live in the Yuhua district, they thoroughly enjoyed this event as they were able to interact with the local community through a mixture of English and local gestures. Cheering each other on, the participants walked from Yuhua CC to Jurong East Street 21, covering Jurong Townhall Road before heading back to the CC.

Ms Grace Fu, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, and Advisor to Yuhua Grassroots Organisations, said she was happy to spend the Sunday morning with Yuhua residents at the annual event. “It was great seeing so many of our residents actively joining in the morning exercise, catching up with friends during the walk and enjoying themselves at the event,” shared Madam Fu in a Facebook post.

The event raised $80,000 and the funds will be used in the “Prosperity Rice Package”, organised by Yuhua grassroots community, which distributes rice to the elderly to celebrate Chinese New Year throughout the district.
