Wanting to do their part for the community, a number of Bukit Batok residents gathered their families to participate in the Bukit Batok Walkathon on September 15 in a bid to raise funds for disadvantaged families. The event, which raised $130,000, was an initiative spearheaded by Bukit Batok Citizens’ Consultative Committees(CCC) Community Development & Welfare Fund (CDWF) in collaboration with community partners, including five Bukit Batok schools.
Mr Murali Pillai, Member of Parliament for Bukit Batok SMC, who attended the event also stopped by for the official opening of the Bukit Batok ActiveSG gym during the walkathon. Lauding the health benefits and state-of-the art technology used in the gym, Mr Murali Pillai said in a Facebook post that his favourite equipment in the gym is a cycling machine, which has an app that will allow users to choose overseas cycling routes such as the Swiss Alps. “You will be able to see a ‘live’ feed of the location you would be cycling, complete with people passing by you in the virtual world. What is real though is the sweat you work up when you go up and down the ‘inclines’ of the cycling route that you choose,” wrote Mr Murali Pillai.
Rounding up the event, Mr Murali Pillai thanked the community partners and Bukit Batok residents for their commitment towards walking for social good.
