Bracing for emergencies

by Our Neighbourhood
Bracing for emergencies

Emergencies can happen anytime and it’s important that we develop resilience and equip ourselves with the necessary skills so we can better protect our loved ones and the community at-large. These were some of the take-home messages that Ms Grace Fu, Minister Culture, Community and Youth , and Adviser to Yuhua Grassroots Organisations, Member of Parliament for Yuhua SMC, tried to convey to residents during the Yuhua Community Resilience Day held on September 28. “Every response matters when an emergency or crisis happens in the community and neighbourhood. Residential fire is a real threat to every household so it is crucial that we remain calm and evacuate swiftly in the event of a residential fire,” said Ms Fu in her welcome speech.

At the HDB car park next to Blk 258 Jurong East St 24, a fire evacuation exercise took place in conjunction with the event. Residents also got first-hand experience in handling emergencies through the interactive booths set up by SCDF and Jurong East NPC. Goodie bags that were equipped with a portable first aid kit and travel organiser were also given out to residents who completed activities such as first aid dressing, CPR and fire-fighting at the designated booths.
