Dancing their way to fitness

Dancing their way to fitness

To encourage community bonding and active living, the Jurong Central Grassroots Organisations (GROs), in partnership with ActiveSG organised a programme called the Dance Arena on September 22, 2019. The event that went on from 10:30am to 9pm at the Jurong East Sports and Cultural Centre saw more than 1,500 residents and dance enthusiasts participating in the annual activity, marking its 10th anniversary.

The participants were joined by Mr Desmond Lee, Minister for Social and Family Development and Second Minister for National Development, Adviser to Jurong GRC GROs, and Mr Ang Wei Neng, Member of Parliament, and Host Adviser to Jurong GRC GROs.

After giving a short opening speech, Mr Ang presented certificate of appreciation to trainers. This was followed by a speech by Mr Lee and a fitness demonstration by dance groups DISCO and Electric Slide Dance.

The initiative, which was launched in 2009 as Dancethon, grew in popularity among the residents and was subsequently relaunched in its annual edition as Dance Arena in 2013. Over the past 10 years, the strong community participation has made it a much-anticipated event on the activity calendar.

Attendees, Mdm Lim and Mr Sunny Ang, who are regular participants, have made new friends through the event. “We have been eagerly waiting for this year’s spectacular Dance Arena Event. We simply love the ambience and the dancing spirit,” shared Mdm Lim.

Three rounds of lucky draw prizes were also given out, followed by dance sessions such as, Dance Fit Club, Line Dance and Zumba sessions.
