Marking Children’s Day

by Our Neighbourhood
Marking Children’s Day

In an early celebration of Children’s Day, which falls on October 4, Ms Grace Fu, Minister Culture, Community and Youth, and Advisor to Yuhua Grassroots Organisations, celebrated the special occasion with residents during the Yuhua Children’s Day on September 29. “Children bring cheer and meaning into our lives, often teaching us the joy of simple things. We should let our children learn by exploring the world around us, observing the things around them, and experimenting with their strengths and talents. Let us spend time with our children and celebrate the innocence and pureness in them on this special day,” wrote Ms Fu in a Facebook post.

During the event, Ms Fu, who was the guest-of-honour presented prizes for the baby crawling contest. All participating babies were given a medal and the top three babies received vouchers for their best performance. Ms Fu also tried a hands-on activity at the PA Scene Booth, where children and residents drew on tiles for the co-creation of the PA60 Bridge of Harmony Float which will be featured at the Chingay Parade as well as various Chingay 2020 @ Heartlands events.

Parents also had a fun time playing different games with their children at the various game booths including robotic soccer, golf game and ring toss by ActiveSG. To stir greater interest in reading among young children, a mobile library bus also graced the event and Ms Fu interacted with parents and their kids at the “bus” library.
