Merdeka Generation Roadshow comes to Jurong with health and lifestyle benefits for senior citizens

Jurong Central Plaza was teeming with excited residents at the Merdeka Generation Roadshow, which took place on July 13, 2019. As part of an island-wide roll-out of 23 Merdeka Generation Roadshows organised by the Ministry of Communications and Information, the event shed light on the Merdeka Generation benefits and brought together various agencies such as the Silver Generation Office, People’s Association, SportSG, Health Promotion Board (HPB), Smart Nation and Digital Government Office (SNDGO) and Info-communications Media Development Authority (IMDA) offering resources and information to help seniors stay active, healthy and connected.

Attended by Senior Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam; Desmond Lee, Minister for Social and Family Development and Second Minister for National Development; Grace Fu, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth; Dr Tan Wu Meng, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Trade and Industry; MP Ang Wei Neng; and MP Murali Pillai joined in the fun with the residents and shared advice on active ageing and healthy living. Celebrities Suhaimi Yusof and Kym Ng livened up the atmosphere with their appearances and played exciting games with residents at the event.

Merdeka Generation seniors can redeem their PAssion Silver card top-ups conveniently located at MRT stations, bus interchanges and selected community clubs from now until December 31, 2020. Jurong seniors who attended the Merdeka Generation Roadshow appreciated the convenience of receiving their one-time $100 PAssion Silver card top-ups instantly at the event.

PA conducted balloon sculpting and up-cycling course trials, and many happy Jurong residents walked away with their own creations. SportSG shared information on various health, fitness and other active ageing programmes that the $100 top-up can be used for, in addition to paying for public transport. A key highlight of the specially curated offers by SportSG is subsidised memberships for unlimited entry to Active SG gyms and pools at only $40 a year. HPB walked residents through the process of downloading and using its Healthy 365 app, which can be used by senior citizens to track their calorie intake and daily step count, locate nearby eateries and exercise facilities.

At the digital booth hosted by SNDGO and IMDA, seniors were guided on government digital services and other apps that they can use on a daily basis. They also received tips on how to stay safe online. Volunteers also shared details on how seniors could connect to the Wireless@SG mobile app and get their SingPass at the booth.
