Bukit Batok Citizens’ Consultative Committees (CCC) and other grassroots organisations had put together different programmes for the different zones in celebration of Singapore’s 54th birthday.
Mr Murali Pillai, Grassroots Adviser to Bukit Batok Grassroots Organisations and MP for Bukit Batok SMC, hosted the series of celebrations across the various zones of the estate over a few days. Guests at the various events included Mr Desmond Lee Ti-Seng, Minister for Social and Family Development and Second Minister for National Development, Adviser to Jurong GRC Grassroots Organisation, and Member of Parliament for Jurong GRC; Ms Grace Fu, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, Adviser to Yuhua Grassroots Organisation and Member of Parliament for Yuhua SMC; Dr Tan Wu Meng, Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Ministry of Trade and Industry and Member of Parliament for Jurong GRC; Mr Ang Wei Neng, Adviser to Jurong GRC Grassroots Organisation, Jurong Central, Member of Parliament for Jurong GRC; Mdm Rahayu Mahzam, Adviser to Jurong GRC Grassroots Organisations and Member of Parliament for Jurong GRC; and Mr Lim Boon Heng, Special Adviser to Chairman of PA Board.
Interest groups, school kids and enthusiastic members of the community presented their own renditions of popular English, Chinese, Malay and Indian songs. While the residents also joined in the revelry by singing National Day songs, dancers entertained the audience with their wonderful cultural dance performances and singing talent.
Advisors and residents also took the opportunity to tour the Bicentennial Exhibition set up. It presented the pivotal moments in Singapore’s history and the people who shaped the nation’s journey across the centuries. It highlighted the fact that the obstacles Singaporeans have faced as a nation has only made them more resilient and prepared for new challenges. With pride, residents sang the National Anthem in unison and toasted to the future.
Alongside dinner, there was also a screening of familiar and landmark sights in the neighbourhood, evoking feelings of nostalgia among residents, both young and old, who came together to experience history and heritage Moments shared with neighbours turned close friends were captured for all to look back on with nostalgia.
