Nurturing an inclusive society

Nurturing an inclusive society

As part of Singapore’s continuous commitment to support inclusion and celebrate the abilities of persons with special needs in the country, an inclusive event – the “Build, Bond and Engage, A Family Day for All” carnival – was held at Usquare Bukit Batok East Community Centre on 9 November.

Residents from Jurong GRC gathered and were treated to magic shows and various workshops at the event. In a special showcase of the unique abilities of youths with special needs, students from MIJ Special Education Hub performed an invigorating dikir barat, which is a style of Malay chorus performance that incorporates singing, poetry, movement and music. SG Enable and other social service agencies were also present to share their various services that support persons with disabilities.

Madam Rahayu Mahzam, Member of Parliament for Jurong GRC (Bukit Batok East), attended and led residents to draw on a large canvas. Individual drawings were added on as residents moved around the canvas. All the drawings culminated in a large collage that symbolised a unified community.
