Earth Day 2023 began with a jovial and high-spirited fiesta of thematic games hosted by PCF Sparkletots Centres @ Yuhua and supported by Jurong-Clementi Town Council.
Echoing the importance of sustainable living, this delightful gathering of children, teachers and families presented the creative potential of upcycling with a full-filled twist, transforming recycled materials into games, edifyingly interactive booths and multi-dimensional art pieces. Residents were pleasantly greeted with insights on environmentally-friendly materials as well as tips on effective recycling.
Minister Grace Fu, MP for Yuhua SMC, even had the opportunity to construct her very own DIY rose made from discarded plastic bags. Also serving as the nation’s Minister of Sustainability and the Environment, Ms Fu has been a vocal advocate for efficient waste management and collective recycling efforts, recently pointing out that “plastics and food have the lowest recycling rates, 6% and 18% respectively”.
This event is just one of Jurong-Clementi’s many green initiatives that calls for residents to adopt eco-friendly practices. Only by bringing residents together through a united love for our communities can we appreciate the impact that small actions can have for our environment. “Let us keep in sight the goal of raising our domestic recycling rate to 30% by 2030. If everyone makes an effort to reduce, reuse and recycle, we can create a more Sustainable SG!” stresses Ms Fu – a fitting rallying cry for the planet that we love.
