Ariff’s Restaurant
This unassuming restaurant tucked beneath a short Housing and Development Board stack serves a delicious mix of authentic Indian and Muslim cuisine. Diners will be glad to know that it is fully air-conditioned, so they’ll be able to enjoy their hearty dum biryani, masala thosai, murtabak and kambing soup in comfort.

Al Majlis Thai Seafood Restaurant
The menu here is extensive but leans towards local zi char dishes rather than Thai cuisine. What stands out is the $49.90 Seafood Shellout Bucket – good for two to three people. It comprises seafood such as crabs, prawns and mussels, as well as chunks of corn and broccoli, all broiled together in a sauce of your choice (go for black pepper or curry dry). Rice is also included to mop up every bit of its savoury sauce.

Buay Tahan See Food
Located in one of the newer housing estates, this zi char place’s menu is broken down according to protein or carbohydrate. Diners can choose from crabs, fish, prawns, chicken and vegetables cooked to their preference, or order substantial one-dish meals like hor fun, bee hoon or fried rice. For ideas, look towards the speciality dishes featured prominently on its signboard – Trio Egg Spinach, White Bee Hoon, Tom Yam Soup or Thai Style Pineapple Fried Rice.

Ayza’s Restaurant
Ayza’s is an airy coffee shop that is home to numerous stalls, all of whom serve generous portions of halal fare. Be spoilt for choice at the wide range of Muslim and Indian Muslim dishes available, such as nasi padang, butter chicken, roti john and biryani. There are also two Indonesian stalls serving gorengan (deep-fried snacks), ayam penyet and mee bakso, as well as a dedicated seafood space serving chilli crab and stingray bakar.

This halal zi char stall can be found in the air-conditioned Food More @ Superbowl food court in Taman Jurong. It offers a variety of a la carte wok-fried dishes like San Lor Hor Fun, as well as rice sets – each includes a fried egg and rice – along with your choice of stir-fry. Choices range from Salted Egg Chicken and Ginger Onion Fish to Black Pepper Prawns and Petai with Sotong. ENAQ The Prata Shop
When the prate cravings hit, there’s no better place in the west than at Enaq. The prata dough is made fresh daily, and upon order, pan-fried till crisp and golden brown. Savoury fillings within the buttery and fluffy prata run the gamut from hot dog cheese to onion mushroom, while sweet fillings include chocolate, kaya and even milky gems. Here, poached or roasted chicken is the must-order, all of which comes served with fragrant chicken rice, accompanied by condiments such as chilli, ginger and dark soya sauce. Operating under the Fei Siong Group umbrella, Sedap Noodle’s speciality is in its name. Its concise repertoire of local noodle dishes includes Chicken Minced Meat Noodle, Fishball Noodle, Laksa, Char Siew Wanton Noodle and Fish Soup Bee Hoon. There’s also a Fish Soup with Rice set, where the soup is made with tom yam for that extra-spicy sour kick.
