Bukit Batok East celebrates National Day Observance Ceremony with a Street Carnival

Madam Rahayu binte Mahzam, Advisor to Jurong GRC Grassroots Organisations and MP for Jurong GRC, and Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Senior Minister and Co-ordinating Minister for Social Policies, joined residents of Bukit Batok East during the National Day Observance Ceremony and Street Carnival on 3 August.

One of the highlights was the march past by the Guard of Honour and Community Contingents. The crowd eased into a silence as a sign of respect for the young contingent, who stood tall and firm, with confidence beyond their years. Despite the challenges Singapore has overcome, there is more to do ahead, and it’s the future generation whose resilience will be key in building an even better Singapore.

The cheers returned when performers from the Bukit Batok East Interest Groups, as well as children, took to the streets. It was transformed into a vibrant carnival with residents. The event was also marked by cake cutting, singing sessions and the presentation of appreciation plaques to schools, as well as long service awards. The night ended with a bang, literally, with Bukit Batok East setting the Singapore Record for the Longest Balloon Chain (600m) and the Longest Balloon Firecracker (550m)!
