Appreciating the efforts of cleaning personnel

Appreciating the efforts of cleaning personnel

In a bit to fight the Covid-19 outbreak, the Jurong-Clementi Town Council organised a series of events to present tokens of appreciation for the cleaners in the estate. The areas include Taman Jurong, Jurong Spring, Jurong Central and Yuhua.

Presenting these tokens were Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for Social Policies, and Member of Parliament for Jurong GRC; Ms Grace Fu, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, and Member of Parliament for Yuhua SMC; Mr Desmond Lee, Minister for Social and Family Development, and Second Minister for National Development, and Member of Parliament for Jurong GRC; and Mr Ang Wei Neng, Member of Parliament for Jurong GRC and Chairman of the Jurong-Clementi Town Council.

Mr Tharman shared more info at the high tea event in Taman Jurong with the attendees – the Town Council’s cleaning staff – while thanking them for their hard work. He said: “Covid-19 virus is very contagious and spreads very fast through surface contact. This is why the cleaners’ job is very important at this crucial time for ensuring that our surroundings and touchpoints such as railings and seating areas are clean, and we really appreciate what they do for the community. This is why we have announced a bonus for our cleaners to thank them for their efforts.” He also reassured them that in Singapore, the medical facilities are well equipped to take care of all Singaporeans as well as residents.

Mr Ang shared that the Jurong-Clementi Town Council cleaners are working tirelessly on the frontlines to ensure maximum cleanliness and hygiene. Some of the areas specifically highlighted include the public areas such as void decks, lift lobbies, hawker centres, playgrounds and fitness corners. “We really wanted to thank them for the work that they are doing, and invited them to an appreciation high tea. Even sitting far apart, I hope they could feel the depth of our gratitude!” said Mr Ang in a Facebook post, making a reference to the current social distancing observance in communities.
