JRTC resident commends cleaner’s honest act

JRTC resident commends cleaner’s honest act

While most people are sound asleep or just starting their day, Mr Islam Nurul is already at work in the common areas of Clementi estate as part of his responsibilities to keep the neighbourhood clean. Working assiduously, he not only helps to keep estates neat and tidy but is also ever ready to offer a helping hand.

What started as a routine day for him on 19 August 2023 turned out to be one where he made a big difference to a resident. After spotting an unattended handbag on a table at the void deck of Block 427 Clementi Avenue 3, he immediately tried to locate its owner. Soon, he found a resident frantically searching for her lost bag.

Piecing the details together, Mr Islam handed the resident her bag without hesitation.

“I was very anxious! I had my purse and everything in that handbag,” said the resident, who was full of praise for Mr Islam. “We are lucky to have such an honest person working in our neighbourhood.”

The vibrancy of any community stems not just from the beautiful homes and parks, but also the graciousness of its residents and stakeholders. It is through the sincere efforts of people like Mr Islam that Jurong-Clementi can thrive. He is also one of many unsung heroes that keep the estate safe and clean for everyone.

Touched by Mr Islam’s gesture, the resident’s son wrote to Dr Tan Wu Meng, MP Jurong GRC, to laud the former’s responsible act.
